ceremonies of the 70th anniversary of the outbreak of the Second World War
By David at 09/05/2009 - 06:30

Speech by the Prime Minister, François Fillon, the ceremonies of the 70th anniversary of the outbreak of the Second World War
01.sept 2009

Ladies and gentlemen,

The Europe is strong in his memory, his strong moral and cultural unity; strong shared history that forged his tests.
In Gdansk, where on 1 September 1939, the Second World War aflame, Poland has been the experience of sacrifice and pain. But it's for the honor of Europe as a whole it has struggled - as she struggled again in 1980 under the banner of Solidarity.
The emotion that brings us here is deep. It is complex. It feeds on grief, pride, remorse, admiration and hope. It reflects the changing fate of a continent torn apart, and then subsided; divided, then united.
Peninsula Westerplatte left the first cries of a terrible conflict, the bloodiest that humanity has ever known.

Decline in the foreign trade deficit in first half 2009

During the first half of 2009, the trade deficit declined from 26.5 billion euros in the second half of 2008 to 25.4 billion euros. This is explained by the decline in our energy bill, due to falling oil prices up this winter. This is explained by the decline in our energy bill, due to falling oil prices up this winter. blow up auto parts factory?
By David at 07/20/2009 - 15:53

According to AFP, Workers in central France have eased off a threat to blow up their auto parts factory unless they receive an extra euro30,000 ($42,270) each, removing gas canisters that surrounded the plant.

The workers placed canisters around the New Frabris factory following its closure and threatened to blow it up by July 31. They demanded compensation from clients Renault SA and PSA Peugeot-Citroen.

Workers voted Monday to remove the canisters ahead of talks with Industry Minister Christian Estrosi.

Union leader Guy Eyermann says if the meeting isn't fruitful, the gas canisters will be back within 15 minutes.

The threat is the latest extreme tactic used by French workers angry over layoffs. Workers at two other factories threatened similar actions.

François Fillon intervention for closure of the General de l'Outre-Mer
By David at 07/16/2009 - 04:31

Let me first say that I feel very emotional to sit for the second time in this Chamber. I had come with the Baman president in 1994, along with Édouard Balladur, and I found the scene with great emotion - as I know all the way which has been covered since, as already debate on the departmentalization was alive.

To ensure that these commitments are well maintained, and that restitution is consistent with what you want, we decided that there would be a monitoring committee of the States General. This monitoring committee could be composed as the organizing committee of the General - but it is up to you to decide and discuss with Ms. Penchard. And we will have an annual appointment with the monitoring committees to ensure that the implementation of the General goes smoothly as everyone wants.

"Paris Dreams" by Diaman

Diaman, N.A. "Paris Dreams", Persona Press, 2009.

The Challenges of Life * review by Amos Lassen (Little Rock, Arkansas)

I first began to read N.A. Diaman a little over a year ago when I discovered his "Following My Heart" and I was mesmerized by the beauty of the prose and the voice of the author. I can say the same for his new book, "Paris Dreams". Diaman writes about when he first arrived in Paris in 1966. He went there because Paris was the city that the expatriate authors defended so vigorously. He went to study French, to become part of the daily life of the city and to work and he hoped to make Paris his home. However, as they say, "The best laid plans of mice and men...", things did not work out as planned and he left with his dreams of Paris smashed.

Response to a question from Jean-Pierre Bel

Response to a question from Jean-Pierre Bel (PS) at topical issues in the Senate
25.juin2009
"Mr. President, Dear Senators,

Thank you, Mr. Speaker Bel, I ask this question I will repeat before the Upper House that I said yesterday to the National Assembly.

We have, with the President of the Republic, after two years of intensive reforms (more than 60 reforms) decided to reorganize the Government. We have made changes in the Government, we have not changed the Government. This means that we have not changed their policy.

The policy is that we drive to which you object for two years and this is what the majority supports the last two years. And in these circumstances I see no reason to make you waste your time by organizing a general policy debate would be to repeat what we said and to seek the confidence of a majority supporting the Government.

Sarkoz said Islamic burqa is not welcome in France
By David at 06/23/2009 - 07:04

French President Nicolas Sarkozy declared Monday that the Islamic burqa is not welcome in France, branding the face-covering, body-length gown as a symbol of subservience that suppresses women's identities and turns them into "prisoners behind a screen."

But there was a mixed message in the tough words: an admission that the country's long-held principle of ethnic assimilation — which insists that newcomers shed their traditions and adapt to French culture — is failing because it doesn't give immigrants and their French-born children a fair chance.
